The healthcare communication support technology joins the ranks of OpenAI, Disney, Tiffany & Co., and more
HOUSTON, TX, March 2, 2023 — CardMedic, an innovative and multi-award-winning digital health solution designed to improve communication between healthcare staff and patients across any barrier, has been named to Fast Company’s prestigious annual list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies for 2023.
This year’s list highlights the businesses at the forefront of their respective industries, paving the way for the innovations of tomorrow. These companies are setting the standard with some of the greatest accomplishments of the modern world. In addition to the World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies, 540 organizations are recognized across 54 sectors and regions.
Making healthcare accessible around the globe
“We are thrilled to be recognized by Fast Company and so proud of the work we have done in the last year to make healthcare more accessible for all. During the pandemic we recognized the enormous need for a solution like ours to improve communication in many different healthcare settings. Today, we are more passionate than ever about advancing our technology to help more organizations in the U.S. and around the world improve patient experience, safety and engagement, and ultimately health outcomes,” said Rachael Grimaldi, M.D., co-founder and CEO of CardMedic and a National Health Service (NHS) anesthesiologist.
CardMedic helps patients and providers overcome a variety of communication challenges in healthcare, including but not limited to visual, hearing, or cognitive impairments; language barriers; low literacy levels; PPE (personal protective equipment) – or simply reinforce and improve any patient’s understanding for safety and improved outcomes. Easily accessible via smartphone, tablet, or desktop, CardMedic’s comprehensive A-Z catalog of digital flashcards are written by clinical experts and medically-nuanced to replicate and support common conversations in the healthcare setting and better guide the clinical interaction.
Continuous product development with clinical teams
Over the past year, as part of CardMedic’s mission to improve patient safety and experience, enhance quality of care, and reduce health inequities, the company has introduced new features to address more communication barriers (including sign language tools, easy-read modes with pictures, and speech-to-text/text-to-speech capabilities), added new languages, and expanded the content offerings within its platform to address more clinical interactions and specialties. Finally, it has also established back-end capabilities that differentiate it from any other translation tools on the market and amplify its value and scalability in real healthcare settings – the most notable being EHR security compliance and integration.
As a result of these innovations, CardMedic is now working with over 21 healthcare organizations in the UK and US, including several leading NHS integrated care systems, and world-renowned hospitals. These include University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and The Christie NHS Foundation Trust – Europe’s largest single-site cancer center and first specialist hospital to be rated outstanding twice by the Care Quality Commission. Most recently CardMedic has been involved in leading U.S. health system Texas Medical Center’s Innovation Program, Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, and Nor-Lea Hospital District, a critical access hospital in Lovington, New Mexico – one of the first rural U.S. healthcare organization to deploy CardMedic’s solution.
