The CardMedic Foundation.
The Foundation is how we take part in work beyond healthcare systems that can pay commercial rates – a health-accessibility programme contributing towards global health equality, aligned to WHO global health policy and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. We choose projects where communication support makes a real difference, and work with partners already established in those settings.
Why it exists
More than 30% of the world’s population lives with a communication challenge. That is even more pronounced in lower-middle-income countries, where language barriers combined with limited access to healthcare can severely affect patient outcomes. The people least likely to be understood are the least likely to be able to pay for the support that would help.
Where we want to be useful
Displaced people are among the least likely to be understood by the services trying to help them, and among the least able to pay for the support that would close that gap. We have worked with refugees to support their access to language services and to livelihoods through work, and those are the kinds of projects we are keenest to take on. Refugee health, humanitarian response and disaster settings are where we believe communication support makes the most difference.

How the Foundation and the platform relate
The Foundation is the route by which access reaches these settings; the platform and its clinical governance are identical. A Foundation deployment uses the same clinically authored content, the same accessible formats and the same assurance framework as an NHS Trust, with scope and limitations stated just as plainly. How each one is resourced depends on the programme and the partners involved.
